Bangkok’s Gateway To God
![]()
It’s one of the most unique places in Bangkok, if not in the whole world.
Countless reviews have been written about it – the place is old snow from yesteryear. And BangkokDan still can’t get enough of it: The Sky Bar on State Tower. A bar you won’t find anywhere else.
Yes yes, you’ve all been there and the place exists since years. But each time you venture there anew it’s as if you reinvent Bangkok again. And again.
Take the elevator at Silom’s State Tower to the 64th floor – warning: They don’t let you in with slippers, sneakers or shorts.
You wouldn’t want to see slippers, sneakers and shorts up there where a single beer sets you back as much as a fine dinner at a decent place.
Now enter the Sky Bar – Bangkok’s gateway to the heavens where each sunset becomes an event and quite some guests lost their jackets due to the winds up there.

Winds that cool down the mainly Mediterranean dishes served Sirocco, the Sky Bar’s very own restaurant, quite quickly. Food that is average by the way. But you get what you pay for. As you’re becoming an instant star dining amongst stars – and closely underneath stars.
If you expect some warmer food for those prices, choose a place nearer to proletarian ground levels.
The Sky Bar is about dangers and intrigue, about divas, agents, lost diplomats and spies – with live jazz played overhead and bustling Bangkok underneath.
No, there is no other bar like this in the whole world. Sky Bar has been voted the world’s “hottest”, “best” and “fanciest” again and again.
Care for the beverages menu? You find an Armagnac Château de Laubade 1983. Don’t even bother asking for the price. It’ll ruin you. Stick with a Heineken.
But this is The Dome’s Sky Bar on top of State Tower – a high-riser that belongs to that Khunying-kind of lady who’s allegedly a major weapons dealer, or so the Thai press wrote.
Play James Bond once in a while. Bring your best company to the Sky Bar, order your favorite drink and don’t give a damn if that Martini is shaken or stirred.

And then this: New Mandala on the State Tower’s owners’ “gift to society – hope.”
What a pile of sleaze.
