Beauty’s Moral Decay

Finally we see some focused government action in these trying times. Not only the Ministry of Information & Communication Technology is overly active these days to ensure a pure and prosperous society.

We learn that the Ministry of Health “is considering action against alcohol beverage firms that distribute calendars clearly showing their brand names or logos – but with no constructive or educational information of value to society.” Instead they show sexy girls. Wow.

Another Protect-the-Nation’s-Dignity campaign by our puritan leaders. Say thanks to the chosen ones behind the yellow movement who want to ban alcohol altogether. Mens sana in corpore sano. Never mind the endless political bickering and hate. It all comes down to, it seems, loose morals and abounding obscenities in today’s Thai society.

All this place needs is some discipline and we’d be fine.

Sexual stimulation could lead to violence, we read in The Nation article linked above, and authorities are urged to take up the issue seriously with major investors and the public in condemning a certain beer company’s PR moves, that is, women’s movements really.

Who doesn’t like women’s movements – as long as they’re rhythmic.

Hey, it’s all body paint anyway. Mostly.

Beauty, we’re told, can be harmful to your health.

“Enough is enough,” the owners of beer Lao/Singha said, some of the richest people in Thailand. The heiress of the Bhirombhakdi-empire took their cause to Govt House (where she actually works!), we learn from Thai Intelligent News, where they distributed 500 calendars and “pissed off and embarrassed politicians.”

Seems like everyone wanted a calendar. If the commerce minister has a role in this whole thing I hear someone asking? …

But what a turn of events. The PM staffer and Singha heiress resigned … A beautiful woman fighting for the rights of beautiful women. Where can I sign up for a Chitpas Bhirombhakdi fan club?

Before our dear dark ages officials get their way and censor these splendid gifts of nature – the Jessica Alba look-alike’s my fav -, here are some Beer Leo 2010 Body Paint Calendar Girls:

What ever happened to the commerce minister? Why does she still have a job? Why is there no comment on the family business? Why, oh why, does Thailand have someone involved in this business placed in this position of power? Surely this appointment is the first thing to mention when describing the Democrat Party and its committment to clean government?

Seriously Dan, with no moral compass and no committment to any ideals of justice or even human rights how on earth can anyone take anything these people say seriously? Why not just accept the Thai version of reality, retreat inside the farang ghetto and live life in a pleasanter atmosphere of anodyne communication and vacant smiles just like the locals?

Not only is the calendar harmless, it is testimony to some common sense still alive and kicking among common people and entrepreneurs around here despite eager government attempts to create a perfect, lifeless society …

Luckily our commerce ministress is no second Purachai. Just imagine. She sure got the wrong portfolio though.

    Hi Absolute,

I think you might be right and I am wrong on this one. My angle to the story is that too much booze is bad, but wild and kinky sex is OK. I totally forgot about the puritan angle and the move to create a perfect society in Thailand. By the way thanks for the picture of the girls.

But seriously speaking, are you single, available and into wild and kinky sex. Not that I want a date of anything. Just curious since we seem to be sort of friends.

Nothing wrong I can see, just a testament to beauty, albeit wrapped in a commercial message. Surely the commerce minister has many more pressing issues to be concerned with?

Oh, just asked my wife and she sees nothing wrong with these calendars either. “Why not,” she said, “these girls are quite beautiful.”

Terry – kinky sounds OK, though not the Carradine-kind of stuff. But I’m definitely not gay.

Oh and the good news: corporate disobedience against our Neanderthal government.

Sales of the racy calendar will go ahead:

Just underlines the propensity for some folk to be able to completely ignore what is under their noses while focussing on some utopian fairy tale of in the middle-distance somewhere.

These people grumble about a calendar of tastefully presented beautiful women, while Thailand has a reputation of being the world’s brothel, a paedophile’s refuge, and a place where for the price of a beer you can so see some women firing ping-pong balls out of their vaginas, or indeed, putting Xmas tree lights into them.

And of course, where the holier-than-thou commerce minister (I think it is her) used to own a soapy massage place (or brothel to call it its proper name).

It is really easy to give up on these dimwits, but then the Abhisit government is setting new standards for corruption, incompetence and hypocrisy.

I find these beauties to be quite educational and more reason to drink Leo beer!

One has to wonder if the Ministry of Health is importing Christian fundamentalists to make these decisions.

The Singha lady has to resign over a calender with pretty girls and the minister of commerce can continue cashing checks from her share of the family’s “happy ending” factory on Ratchada every day? Let’s see, a yearly “gross” of 300 million USD, about 6 million USD worth of happy endings each week, let’s say the margin is 50 percent and the split is among 10 or so family members, that would leave the commerce minister with about 300,000 USD per week … that’s a lot of happy endings! Oh, I forgot, they have to “contribute” part of the weekly margin to the police, the military and the “non-corrupt” Democrat Party, say about 50 percent, so that would leave her with only 150,000 USD per week …
