Bombed German

How much is enough. I mean the publishing of photos by the Thai press that you’d think would be better kept private. Of accident, crime, humiliating photos. A theme that reoccurs again and again among non-Thais here. The “leaking” of autopsy pics of Bangkok-dead actor David Carradine was just another such case.

Now we have a German expat who was apparently killed by a remote controlled bomb in Chonburi and nothing but his lower part with jeans is left. With jeans intact. Only a few hours must pass after the discovery of the German’s lower part and you find the whole thing with color photos and a graphic video online.

Well, it’s on the Pattaya Daily News’ Thai page. Maybe don’t open the page if you’re a sissy. No word though of the halved German on the site’s English pages as far as I can tell. Foreigners just can’t take it. We had an earlier post about this danse macabre; about this Thai way of looking at death so much more indifferently than foreigners are used to.

Still, was it the German?! They found a driver’s license in a nearby BMW. And how could he be forced to wear a rucksack or vest filled with explosives? If the murderers – is it murder? – would have chosen a slightly more inconspicuous, less creative, traditional way of killing they’d be safer now.

But then again, talk about quirky suicides in this promised land. How many balcony doors are locked from the inside after another expat with money jumped to his death from a Bangkok luxury condo.

But a bombed German.

Yes, he seemed to have been in the property biz with some conflicts.

Still.

The place just doesn’t seize to amaze.
