Collected Thaksin Quotes

All the analyses are written and done. The Thaksins are gone. Now we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m not expecting the Thai government to proactively seek the extradition of Thaksin & Pojaman from the U.K. Why did they allow them to leave in the first place.

And we’ll hear again of the man. Time though to look retrospectively at some of the greater and less greater words of Thaksin Shinawatra, who once ruled the kingdom at will. With his English pretty good, we’re digging out mostly English quotes. God knows what’s out there in Thai.

You may find some other timeless sayings by Thaksin in some forgotten treasure trove. Why don’t you email them and I’ll update the post continuously.

“This is Thailand.” (Thaksin to American businessman William Monson, who claims to have been massively cheated by Thaksin in the 80s)

“I had no intention to conceal my assets. It was a purely honest mistake.” (in 2001, crying, to the Constitution Court who let him off the hook)

“The supporters, I hope, will also see what I am trying to do. They have loved the club longer than me, but I am with them because I have invested my money, a lot of money.” (comforting uneasy Man City fans)

    TRUE THAT

  2. Charlie Grimley says:

This is what the Nation quoted him as saying yesterday.

“I may be not be a perfect man but I reaffirm that I am not as bad as some accused me of being. If good fortune were on my side I would like to return to Thailand and die there like all other Thai people.”

I wonder if Pojaman’s Khunying-ship can, be revoked now that she is a convicted felon (subject to appeal, I suppose). And, even further, it seems to me that she and her hubby have transgressed the lese majeste laws by misrepresenting her deeds (or, more specifically, failing to disclose her mis-deeds) thereby leading HM into the embarrassment of granting her the title when she would likely not be qualified otherwise. I think such laws are actually an abysmal anachronism but, hey, since Thaksin and his allies have used the laws against others, why not? Does anyone out there know whether precedent exists?

  4. Andrew says:

When questioned about the charges he is facing back in April he said:

“I can prove my innocence easily; I have done nothing wrong.”
