Going Thai-Tech: Electronic Ghost Repeller

Politicians, mortals, hear ye! A ghostly topic again, but this is Thailand where ghosts are an everyday feature, so you better start living together with them. I have to say though we ourselves life in a unique place without a san phra phum in the garden, a spirit house. The former owner simply ignored them and we try to maintain the tradition.

Which doesn’t mean that now and then strict rituals have to be performed to pacify … ghosts? Now there’s an easy way out. An innovative Bangkok seller offers the ghost-busting “Trisaksri Ghost Repeller – electronic haunt repellent” – for a meager 22,000 baht. Peanuts compared to what problems such a repeller prevents.

The ad is on craigslist and Baht&Sold, on the latter with images. Doesn’t look like the latest state-of-the-art technology, but then again, ghosts are knowingly not liable to common-day technology. Personal despair and insecurity have to be integral parts of this resourceful little machine: An experience with ghosts or the devil is explicitly required:

“You or someone may have experience with ghost or devil after bought new second hand house from the former owner,” the ads in beautiful Thainglish say. “Some houses may have bad spirit inside which will interfere your daily life unhappy and frighten your children. Finally many of you leave away the house and find a new home.”

“We have a solution for you, “Trisaksri Ghost Repeller.” Just place this device in side your house and switch ON. All ghost and devil will leave away your home and won’t come back again. Now who run away, you or ghost ? Save money in finding a new home. To place order, please contact us.”

How the magic little machine works? Ghost spirits usually emit a weak natural electric field:

“Trisaksri Ghost Repeller © composed of complex electronic circuit. It generates KILLER WAVE and mix with low static electric multiple fiend “Natural” EM/Microwave. The device output is extreamly sensitive to changes of as little as 0.5% of the strength of the earth’s magnetic field. Ghost spirit usually emit weak natural electric field which can not be measured by normal meter or can not be responded by humen senses. The device has been designed to ignore the AC fields of power lines, appliances, etc. It only interact with ghost’s and animal spirit and no harm to humen health.”

The choice is yours. Pay thousands of baht to monks to ritually cleanse a place – or go Thai-tech.

My money would go to whatever money spent would haunt less.

Or why not casting a simple spell with the help of this proven spell aggregator – my protective spell:

Protective spirit, hear our plea, and grant to BangkokDan safety:

Hunt, hunt, sing and love!
Stick a sun in your ear.
Eye of bird and lymph gland of none.
Pour beer on the love.

Say “hi” to the phantom host
and preserve BangkokDan from the evil ghosts.

Oh my … You’re doomed. And will be haunted forever and ever. There won’t be any end of times for you. An eternity of despair and pain, this what you have signed for.

Sorry, just before reading your article, I was reading the news about the possible ban on alcohol during … Songkran … The little Talibans from Thailand are pushing very hard.

So, between ghosts and booze ban, I start seriously to question my morality and the future of my poor soul.

(And I’m going to mail-order the beautiful piece of machinery you describe. Comfort of the spirit has no price.)

Ghostbusters was probably the one cultural item that decided my exile from America, To now come and see myopic technology used in a somewhat-lacking measuring of the nuances of Thai spirituality, is, I believe, a challenging and potentially danger-prone exercize for foreigners to perform in Thailand. Study up, not down! Above all, respect!

For sure any producer who dabbles with any “pii” subject in this country would have performed some substantial merit-making to request permission to take the piss in advance.
