Heal Society, Celebrate Bangkok’s New Favorite Pastime: K.I.P.

After some R.I.P. we got some K.I.P. – Bangkok’s new favorite pastime: Kissing in Public – celebrating an art that is not really publicly celebrated in pathologically kiss-timid Thailand. There’s a Thai project dedicated to the art: Kissing-in-Public is not yet that lively, but hey, revolutionary ideas always need some acceleration time until they take the people by storm.
Says the project’s site: “Kissing in Public is an ongoing project which invites residents in Thailand to perform the act of, well, kissing in public. We’d like you to film this and share it with all of us. Check out our little short film that kicked start the project.” And yes, it gets political – heal Thai society by kissing:
“KIP is an exercise in sociocultural politics. At the time where all the eyes in Thailand and the media focus on national politics, we’d like to open up space, not only for debates, but real practices, on how the personal can and should be political, especially at this transitional period in Thai history.” Well!
Over to you. Yours the lead or the understudy. Create your own projects and become a sought-after Bangkok kisser. Find out in a real-life field study where your limits are and if there are Thai variations of and translations for French kiss, soul kiss, Glasgow kiss.
You can always tell the innocent victim you just grabbed that it’s for a project and the betterment of society.
What? Haven’t yet kissed anyone in public today?
Thanks for the nod Oneditorial!

An unlikely scene anywhere in Thailand, unfortunately, nice as it may appear. Is this another staged performance video, BangkokDan??
Interesting pastime. But you wouldn’t want to google up an image search for K.I.P.

Maybe they’re trying to copy the Vietnam model. Everyone seems to French kiss — the younger the better! — in public parks, under trees, while watching the sun go down around the big lakes, etc.
