Playing God

Who doesn’t love them, internet forums. Posters often surpass paid editors and journalists by means of wit and spot-on analysis. Other posters though, enjoying the anonymity of being out there somewhere in cyberspace, simply drive you nuts.

As Nietzsche famously said “Nothing is true, everything is permitted,” the internet allows the wackiest of wacky minds to have a say. On the net, Nietzsche’s maxim becomes a nihilistic “Nothing is wrong, everything is true.”

And that’s where you can come in. By judging what is right and what is wrong. The Bangkok Bugle informs us that the honorable Bangkok Post is looking for “Web Moderators.” Duties include “quickly approve/disapprove discussion board comments” and “moderating forum post comments.”

Now if that’s not a call. If you look around, the Post’s forum is one of the more vivid, franker cyberplaces in Thailand.

True, if comments get out of hand, the board is usually locked down. The majority of posters does furthermore prefer to disagree with the paper’s editorial line.

Decent moderation would make the forum even more attractive. It’s not clear though how well-paid the positions are and if they come with a work permit. Maybe you have to live on love alone.

But for the sake of truth and transparency – and minor spins maybe … -, I’d apply immediately if I wouldn’t be stuck in my own little world.
