Politically Correcter LPG/CNG/NGV?!

Don’t tell me you’re not affected by rising gas prices. Did you adjust your life? You’re now walking instead of taking the car for those few meters? Ah, you never really cared about gas prices. The company pays everything.

Well, if you’re still ignorant, thank you for shoveling that money into the pockets of speculators and the Saudis. Soon they gonna build skyscrapers 1,000 meters high. They don’t know what to do with all that money.

Whereas in the so-called rich industrialized world a new crime makes headlines. Gasoline theft. Imagine what will happen if the barrel of light sweet crude tops 200 U.S. dollars. Your quiet neighbor may turn into a heinous gas thief. Take precautions. Ask yourself now if you should make the switch to LPG or CNG/NGV.

Thailand’s actually quite proactive regarding alternative car fuels. About the benefits and drawbacks of each alternative you’ll have to do your own research. Consider this: Filling a massively more pressurized CNG/NGV tank will take about twenty minutes at one of PTT’s not too numerous stations.

LPG is much more available in Bangkok and Thailand – but petroleum-based and therefore tied to the rising oil prices.

CNG/NGV in comparison is mainly composed of methane and considered to be environmentally cleaner and more energy-efficient than LPG. Costlier though to install.

However you twist and turn it, the switch will save you big time. Expect tens of thousands of baht a year in your pocket you’d have paid to the Saudis if you’re a frequent driver.

Am currently on the lookout for a proper garage in Bangkok doing a proper installation. Better invest that saved money in some decent bottles of wine.

If you got a reliable address and/or some experience on the subject, the comment form is all yours.

Did some research, went to some places myself. The most proper so far clearly Super Central Gas right at the entrance of Viphavadee Rangsit Soi 36. Very professionally equipped.

They just did some red-plated Mercedes Benz when I was there. They’re fully booked for weeks. You’ll have to leave your car there for four days. They even provide the proper casing for those ugly tanks at 5,000 baht extra.

And boy, those tanks are huge. A CR-V runs gets about 400 kilometers, they say, from a 61 liter LPG tank.

Just in case, PTT’s CNG/NGV Call Center: 1365 ext. 5

LPG – you could technically use the gas tank from your kitchen stove to fill up. I wouldn’t suggest it though. :)

Some people run their car on salt water!

Been to two garages so far. They laugh at you if you want to install CNG/NGV. Looks like a sure case for LPG. Quite some price differences though. At less sophisticated garage can give you a 32,000 baht deal. A garage doing the installation for expensive import cars as well will charge around 50,000 baht.

It may soon make no more sense to switch to LPG/NGV – ThaiCrisis about the expected price increase of 41% for NGV and the oil bubble showing signs of bursting …
