State Of Emergency In Bangkok

Nearly two years after the coup of September 19th, 2006, Thailand reached ultimate deadlock again. Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej declared martial law after clashes overnight between government and anti-government supporters with one dead. Southern airports are blocked again and nationwide strikes are looming.
The PAD so far ignores the state of emergency. The emergency should only last for a few days, said Samak. “Live goes on as normal.” Welcome back to two years ago. Is this democracy really worth this price to pay. Follow our extended Bangkok News Feed on the right sidebar:
Reporting for my own clients keeps me busy. Follow the events at Bangkok Pundit and the breaking news sections of The Nation and Bangkok Post. The basics: PM to have absolute control; PAD to go on protesting despite state of emergency; more people join protest at Government House, pro-government protesters regroup.
Hmm, how the emergency will be enforced, that’s the big, all dominant question.
For us Farang it is just another frustrating example of almost childlike tit-for-tat tantrums by politicians and behind the scenes movers but those of us who have a fondness for the Thais can also get quite angry about it all – the Thai people deserve good government but greedy self serving individuals seem bent on denying them this right.
This is not just frustrating to farangs, Doctor.
A recent poll says that the majority of Thais are greatly bored with politics. Sadly, not enough people are willing to stand up and fight the status quo.
The administration of Thailand must take stronger action against the PHANTHAMAN so-called “group of EVIL.”
