What a weasel! It's now time for the court and the government to move swiftly, revoke his diplomatic passport and file for extradition. I mean his wife is a CONVICTED criminal. How she managed to get into the U.K. in the first place is beyond me. Martha Stewart, America's favourite TV housewife, was just denied entry a few weeks ago on the grounds of a previous criminal record. She was convicted of tax evasion several years ago. Double standards?

I doubt he'll make an announcement.

He usually does not when they eyes of the world are on him.

Maybe a short press release though.

Re the Manchester City part, I know a lot of people have questions about the "Fit and Proper Persons Test." Here is the actual rule:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/6923831.stm

A straightforward reading of the rule suggests that if Thaksin is convicted on the land deal case, which involves corrupt dealings with a public agency, then he will have to give up the club.

It will be interesting to see what Thaksin has to say him for himself (from London) on Monday.

He once bragged he would fight all cases laid against him in court. What he really menat was of course that he would fight all cases against him in court only if everything was going in his favor through manipulating and influencing of proceedings. But once his wife was convicted, he must have realized that things had gone awry, and now he is apparently merely doing what his ilk has always and traditionally done in this country: Avoid responsibility and take flight head over heels like a coward. To be honest: Nobody with even the most rudimentary knowledge of the Thai psyche would have expected him to stand his ground. To accept responsibility for your actions with all consequences, whether good or bad, has never been one of the most admirable character traits of this society, particularly not the elite, who are generally good at dishing out, but not at reaping. It is of course completely incomprehensible that the court would actually have allowed him AND his ALREADY CONVICTED wife to leave the country at all. It stinks of some fishy deal that may have been concluded.

Last night we were discussing whether he might return and intentionally create havoc i.e. to get the two groups to fight; then he could claim political refugee status which gives him more "status." However, it appears that he he did not wish to risk it. We expect him to fight back from his place of exile through his trusted "lieutenants."
