The Clown Of Clowns

This is not your average adult topic: Clown Eckie, a Bangkok institution by now.

Not that Clown Eckie is a clown for youngsters and birthday parties only. He had joked at the wedding party of David Beckham and Posh Spice, he performed with Robin Williams and Meat Loaf.

Eddie Haworth alias Clown Eckie is Bangkok’s clown of clowns.

Clown Eckie played for about every audience in Bangkok, be it for diplomats, gala dinners, corporate events, in TV shows or movies.

A clown jewel, as a critic wrote about the joker who takes his art most seriously and holds – among other numerous achievements – the world record for bounce juggling: “Be grateful for British lager louts. Were it not for their well cultivated contempt for everything decent and delightful, Clown Eckie and sundry other lovable oddball characters might never have skipped off to Bangkok in search of an audience that wouldn’t keep trying to trip him off his trick cycle mid skit – just for a laarf.”

Wrote another critic about the emigrant from Manchester: “When Eddie Haworth gives you a business card – watch out, his wallet may well burst into flames. That’s because Eddie is a professional clown. Not your common or garden clown, you understand, but a traditionalist, as Eddie prefers to think of himself. He says he’s like one of those wise old court jesters whose politically-inspired antics would probably have earned other citizens a place on the gallows. Eddie, though, has kept his head …. so far. To him, clowning is an art form.

Although he doesn’t claim to be a historian, Eddie has studied all forms of clowning and how their practitioners have influenced events throughout history. They include Clown Vercoe and Nola Rae in the UK, Slaver Poluni in Russia, and Angela de Castro in Mexico. He has also entertained some well known names, including the Beckhams or Richard Branson for the Virgin PLC launch. He even performed at a Meat Loaf concert. His numerous TV appearances include the BBC TV Christmas Circus Special show, the BBC TV Saturday Night show, and various soap operas.

Eddie has developed a number of memorable characters during his 20 year career: Humphrey Boggins with his exploding accordion and three-meter jets of water squirting from his eyes and ears. Then there’s Clown Eckie himself, who was Britain’s representative in the prestigious Clown D’Oro competition.”

Clown Eckie, the Only British Professional Clown in Thailand, emanates from the real school of clowns. Doesn’t matter if you’re 1 or 100 years old, Eckie will bring smiles to every face.

But it’s not all laughter. Says Clown Eckie about being Clown Eckie:

“You might say he’s lonely, shy and hiding behind the make-up … Or you might say he’s a lost soul in the fast moving world of high powered technical entertainment ‘as seen on TV’. There may be many other reasons why clowns have traditionally been seen as rather sad characters.

But what makes me cry is seeing people become absolutely captivated and besides themselves with joy and pure happiness. I’ve spent a great part of my life learning how to make people laugh and hopefully a lot of those people will retain a lasting memory of the time they saw a silly old clown falling down a lot and making a real fool of himself.”

And he does it anywhere – at your poolside, in the garden, on stage, in any room.

You will not only be amazed about what he does to balloons. The way Clown Eckie interacts with the audience will awaken the world’s biggest party-pooper.

Have the Bangkokian rarity Clown Eckie over for your party – a sure success.
