The Thaksin Quest

A snippet in The Nation caught my eye: “Thai consul in Hong Kong instructed to check Thaksin’s whereabouts.” Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it. Kind of reminiscent of the good old Cold War thrillers. The Thai consul playing James Bond. “The Thai Consulate Office in Hong Kong will check into the whereabouts of fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra and report back to the government,” Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva is quoted as saying.

“If Thaksin can be located, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate with the Office of the Attorney General to bring him back,” Abhisit said. Ho ho Abhisit, an extradition is not that easy. Or shall we expect a commando operation, rendering Thaksin harmless and retrieving him back to a Thai prison cell? Or could it be that the Chinese government cooperates and arrests the man?

In case you missed it, Thaksin plans to give a speech at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Hong Kong on Monday, March 02nd. The FCCT will broadcast the hour-long event live at 11.45 am. Expect a packed house – if Thaksin doesn’t opt out. Why should he not. Abhisit demands his rightful trophy with his consul closely monitoring Thaksin – to catch him? Think again Abhisit: Thaksin on the loose may be better for your government.

But then again, Thaksin’s Hong Kong appearance would not only put the Chinese authorities under pressure – but how much more can the man on the run be on the run. And why would he take the risk? Thaksin has shot his last bullets already. Any new revelations to further his cause are highly unlikely. On the other hand, he wouldn’t expose himself without a clear goal in mind.

Imagine Thaksin in a Thai prison. Don’t think that he would be quickly forgotten. As a “martyr” Thaksin could be a more effective politician from the inside of a Thai prison than from the outside world on the run. The Abhisit government is better off with no Thaksin in sight – while the only strength Thaksin has left is the weakness of the Abhisit government.

I have heard your nonsensical argument umpteen times. It’s better off for Thugsin to be outside of Thailand blurting his BS than inside a Thai prison cell. Ha! Ha! Ha! Who do you think this fugitive on-the-run is? Some kind of “super crook” who is untouchable?

He is a NOBODY! He has lost all credibility. He is a BIG COWARD running away from justice and claiming that he is being persecuted politically. If he is truly innocent why did he run away like a mouse running away from the cat after eating the cheese and being caught red-handed? He should be in Thailand fighting for his name and his innocence.

Come on, only fools would believe what he says – lies, lies and more lies! I cannot believe that there are so many fools in Thailand!

Mama San did I make a case for Thaksin with one word in this post?! Read first, then think – and then fire, if rightly so.

Again: What’s the lesser of two or even more evils?

Rats in Thailand don’t eat cheese. And more oft than not, they are the ones chasing the cat. Madam apparently doesn’t understand what constitutes the justice system in Thailand.

Justice must be served. There are too many crooked politicians now and in the past who have been considered to be “too powerful to prosecute,” like Citigroup, AIG and others in the U.S.A. who are considered to be “too big to fail.” These notions are utter nonsense.

Why should this cowardly fugitive convicted criminal be allowed to travel all over the world and slander the country as well as insult the monarchy as he pleases? Why is he even allowed to hold and travel on a Thai passport? If he is allowed to travel on Thai passport, then the government should also issue passports to all other convicted criminals in the country and allow them to travel freely! I can understand why the crooks and hoodlums in the TRT, PPP and now PTP parties do not want to see their paymaster go to jail, but the Democrats? What a big disappointment!

Justice is supposed to be blind. No one should be above the law. Otherwise, the law books should be thrown into the waste basket and burned! Who needs laws when they are not to be enforced? Laws that are not enforceable are like worthless stock certificates that are not even fit to be used as wallpapers.

Smart Alec “number&number” seem to think that he is the only person who “understands” the justice system (or lack of it) in Thailand. Don’t be too arrogant, sir or madam. I have lived in this wretched country and all over Asia and elsewhere on and off since the early 1970s and witnessed the tumultuous events in those days, and I am not deaf, mute nor blind!

Everyone must have gotten word of it by now, Thaksin’s speech is off because he’s “very annoyed by the hoo-ha” of the Thai government over his scheduled appearance …
