Tired Of The Big 3? Try SubZeroSiam

You’re a regular poster in one of Thailand’s farang forums? The options are growing. Now that even the Bangkok Post offers a forum and The Nation has teamed up with ThaiVisa it’s that easy for everyone to have a say. Add TeakDoor – my personal favorite – and Ajarn …
But how you will be heard and what responses you get depends on the forum. Wrote me a reader: “I’m sick of Ajarn and ThaiVisa being nothing more than advertising platforms for their admin. On neither site can you bitch about an advertiser and to me that’s just not cool.”
Well, there’s a new kid on the block: SubZeroSiam. A new and dynamic alternative to the “big three” ThaiVisa, TeakDoor and Ajarn, as owner Bob tells absolutely Bangkok.com. SubZeroSiam promises to be a new and radical approach to how forums are managed, we’re told.

The response to the site has been overwhelming! Subzerosiam.com has over 10,000 topics and almost 100,000 posts since our inception at the beginning of December 2008.
Subzerosiam.com was formed by a group of unhappy posters primarily from one of the big three because the forum admin wasn’t dynamic enough to keep his primarily investors (the posters) happy because he was worried about keeping his secondary investors (his advertisers) happy. A site where posters were more important than pleasing an advertiser was needed and thus Subzerosiam.com was born.
The goal on Subzerosiam.com is not to be a teacher’s site, a visa information site or a building site but more of a “local tavern” where people can come in and let their hair down a bit, have fun with their friends and share with each other. It’s for those who don’t want to be seen as anyone thing other than a person just wanting to kick back for a bit and chill with some friends.
One promise is that Subzerosiam.com will not have advertisements on the forum. It will be 100% supported by the members. Subzerosiam.com wants its posters to be free to say what they want without fear that they will be moderated because of the admin’s greed is more important than a poster’s opinion. And after looking at the “big three,” it seems more about advertisers interests than posters interests.
Last but not least: The intention in starting the site was not to be a teachers or visa info or a expat forum, but more of a “bar” where people can come in, kick back and relax without worrying too much about being “nice” or listen to people continually rag on teachers or anyone else.
One thing our site offers is a “backroom” area where the more controversial topics and the NSFW stuff can be posted. After 300 posts a member can access that area. The public area is moderated akin to Ajarn and the top half of TD, with the members only section being almost completely unmoderated.
Some threads from Subzerosiam.com:
The New Gaff: One of our members moves into and refurbishes his house.
Your Pics: Where posters share pictures from the bygone days!
The Stamp on Holiday: One of our members visits home for the first time in years.
Father and Son Make Pizza: Father and son in the kitchen together.
Restaurant Reviews: Find out what restaurants are great and ones to pass on.
Not Tightening the Belt: Find out what foreigners spend the money on to make their life comfortable.
Addendum BKKDan: Blood replacement is always a good thing. Wishing SZS good luck! So far each forum has developed an own strength. ThaiVisa is good for general information, TeakDoor’s more colorful, Ajarn I have hardly ever used I must confess.
