Yours Truly, Bangkok

This September 19th – wasn’t that the first birthday of the putsch? – absolutely Bangkok turns 2. In Thailand’s Top 100 Blogs absolutely doesn’t do too shabby, thanks! I’d immediately give up writing though if I’d dare to add up all the hours that have gone into this site.
As Metblogs sums it up – don’t they speak my mind: Blogging will “make you rich, famous, good looking, will help you lose weight, make your clothes fit better, and get you a super good deal on a new car. It will make you the most well known person on the entire planet.”
Or maybe not. To earn serious money with a blog you have to be on it 24/7, just to mention finding, not to mention researching new topics. And hasn’t everything been done and said already? Ha, not in Bangkok. The city remains a treasure trove for the likes of everything and everyone.
Still. What is blogging all about if you only make a few dollars with it a day, if could spend the time spent writing much more happily with family and friends – and if your site is one among thousands and thousands … Self-expression? To blog or not to blog, who cares. Bloggers are and face faceless existences.
I tell you what does it for me – even though sometimes it takes days to find the energy to write a new topic, while on other days I produce two or three posts in no time: It’s a simple trying to make sense of it all, trying to share and inspire, while this site wouldn’t be anywhere without inspiring fellow bloggers and contributors who send in stories.
There’d be a ton of potential. If I’d only have the time. The spirit is willing. The flesh is willing. A labor of love. But there’s a main life out there.
Or do bloggers truly only love two things – links and themselves? Finally finding some freedom in writing behind a template?
Oh, by the way, wanna become beautiful, rich and famous? Just send in your Bangkok stories.
Seriously. Food, art, politics, anything goes. An event. Something you witnessed. Anything. Just sense a story.
Drop an email. Fame and glory guaranteed.

Hey, who needs the glory when you have the fame? And no need to blog all the time when you are on Twitter, eh? I mean, that’s how I found this posting!
The various reasons for blogging, deciding how much to blog, knowing when to give up blogging … decisions, decisions …
I have three industry blogs plus the one attached here. Two of the industry blogs were created to give back, one was for the fun of it.
I started WLT (Thai language blog), for selfish reasons. I wanted to energize my stagnant Thai language learning.
But I discovered that if I am blogging, I am not studying.
Because on some blogs, such as WLT, blogging is not just sitting down in front of a computer writing.
There is a mountian of research to do.
And the research, as interesting as it is, is the real time eater.
Started WLT has been a boon for me because I’ve learned a lot about how people learn languages.
And I’ve met wonderful people.
Problem is, it has failed to accomplish what I set out to do – become fluent in Thai.
Oh well, no rush, I have time … I just need to push myself away from these keys!
But I will give a serious think about your offer of fame and glory. Guaranteed …
